Building Semi Translucent Cladding Laban Centre in London
Decorative scheme for Laban’s exterior and on some elements of interior style. The construction is clad in a groundbreaking polycarbonate semi-transparent color punctuated by large clear windows. The polycarbonate cloaks the building in translucent shades of lime, turquoise and magenta. The style was conceived as a physical expression of the Laban romantic relationship with the local community a focal stage for the inspiration alive, accessible and welcoming to all.
By day the building’s semi-translucent cladding allows traces of dance and motion to be visible through the walls. By evening the building turns into a coloured beacon with light and motion spilling out illuminating the surrounding region. The building is structured as an urban ’streetscape’, a sequence of corridors, interior courtyards and meeting locations, centred round the main theatre room – the literal and metaphorical heart of the building. Laban is the largest purpose-built modern dance centre in the world.
